  • Cadboro Bay Festival

    On August 10th, CBSA participated in the 2025 Cadboro Bay Festival for the second year in a row. Thanks to all of the volunteers who worked in our booth this year!

    Saanich Parks hosted the event, which celebrated ocean recreation and sustainability. Although the main activities in our booth seemed to be applying temporary pirate tattoos and colouring small pirate treasures, I would like to highlight why it was important for CBSA to participate in this event again this year. We aren’t there specifically to find new members or to sell anything. Nevertheless, it is important for the community and Saanich Parks to see that our club is active, delivering on our mandate (providing low cost access to sailing on Cadboro Bay), and willing to help Saanich Parks with their initiatives. The location of the CBSA compound in beautiful Gyro Park is never guaranteed, so when Saanich Parks asks if we would like to participate in one of their events… our answer is clear!

  • CBSA Sailors Win Big in Taiwan

    Congratulations to CBSA members Hugh Jervis and Jose Grandizo for cleaning up at the 2025 Masters World Games in Taiwan.

    Hugh won gold for the 75+ age group, and Jose won silver for the 65+ age group!

  • Swift Solo CAN001 For Sale Penticton BC

    After many years I have regretfully decided that it’s time to let go of my beloved Swiftsolo.
    CAN 001 Twentyfour and a Halfer is primed and ready for new adventures.
    She has been maintained well and will go to her new home with a full set of sails- spinnaker included, main and jib, as well as a spare jib. Launching dolly, harness for the trapeze and an older spare (partially rigged) mast, boat cover and hull cover for transit.
    I have no road trailer at this point, and the boat is currently up in Penticton.
    I completed a total re-rig 3 years ago, and all lines were done.

  • May 2025 Cleanup Day

    Cleanup day was a raging success this year, with around 20 members wielding rakes, mowers, weed-whackers, and other dangerous looking tools…and yet no significant injuries were reported!

    The compound is as clean as a whistle, and I choose to believe the boats ended up more or less where they started from. If you can’t find your boat, talk to Ryan Jmaeff….he didn’t show up, so we can safely blame any problems on him!

    Team Vanessa provided some delicious coffee and snacks…we weren’t sure what the decaf was for, so we poured it into the lawnmower.

    When I left, a ragtag group of semi-skilled carpenters was just finishing a new cradle for the infamous, ‘Betty’s Byte’.  It looked pretty slick, and it occurred to me that one or two other boat owners may need to put hammer to nail on their own cradles this spring. If  you need some suggestions, I’m pretty sure any members loitering around the compound would be happy to offer some advice or help out!
